Climbing communities around the world have been grappling with the concepts of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) to an unprecedented degree in 2020. There are large demographics of people who may not feel welcome at the crag because of barriers such as race, gender, sexual orientation, or other identities. The climbing community has been striving to create a cultural shift by intentionally building specific opportunities for all people to enjoy our sport. In this panel, community leaders from India and Kenya, as well as the USA, will share the stories of how they have used climbing to bring people together and build supportive communities. Anyone interested in learning about effective, programmatic JEDI work should tune in for this session. Moderator: Taimur Ahmad, JEDI and Policy Associate, Access Fund Speakers: -Gowri Varanashi, Founder, Climb Like a Woman -Jon Hawk, Director of Operations, Memphis Rox -Liz Ndindi, Founder, Climbing Life Kenya
